One of the things we love to do at RIVET is… celebrate!

Our members come to our gym for a number of reasons. They want to lose fat. They hope to gain muscle mass. They want to ready themselves for the summer season. They want to train for a specific sport. But, ultimately, they want to live longer, happier and healthier lives. In our experience we have found that no two members are alike.

Different goals, different strategies for reaching those goals, and different outcomes along the way. We meet you where you are, and celebrate as you get to where you’re going.

Everybody meet Jeff.

Consistency combined with Canadian grittiness!

Q: Favourite and Least Favourite CrossFit movement?
A: Favourite is any kind of Olympic lifting. Figuring out how your body can efficiently move big weight is very interesting and rewarding. Least favourite is hollow rocks. They are deceptively difficult and I am certain I look ridiculous rolling around attempting them.

Q: How did you find out about Rivet?
A: Driving home along 99E we saw the signs up for the gym and thought “that is a good spot for a gym”

Q: Favorite Joke?
A: How do you find Will Smith in the snow? Look for the Fresh Prints.

Q: What motivates you to work hard?
A: A firm belief that hard work can compete with natural talent. And a fairly firm belief that it’s better to fail trying hard than half-assing it.

Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
A: Roasted Chicken, potatoes and vegetables. Or a spicy pasta. Either one with an ice cold beer.

Q: How has CrossFit impacted your everyday life?
A: Decrease in stress throughout the day. Increase in energy especially around the early afternoon. Falling asleep at the end of the day in seconds. Increased donations of clothes to goodwill.

Q: What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue.
A: Sailing. And if money were really not an issue, then Yachting.

Q: What age do you wish you could permanently be?
A: Each year keeps getting better, wouldn’t want to go back.

Q: What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
A: Watch the motion picture “Goon” starring Stiffler. Best hockey movie since Slap Shot. Best Canadian movie since Fubar.

Q: What’s the best way to start the day?
A: A nice cup of black coffee on the way to a 5:30 am CrossFit Class.

Q: What is one of your favourite smells?
A: Meat cooking on a fire, fresh baked goods filling the house, nature in the rain.

Q: What is a random fun fact about you?
A: I am Canadian, and have met Jean Chretien (former Prime Minister), Math Nerd, solid cook and beat some costumed nerds at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit in one turn at the “Attack of the Clones” opening day.

Coach’s Notes

Jeff’s consistency and progress since joining have been remarkable. He’s at the 5:30am nearly every day and manages to show up with a smile and friendly conversation when most people are barely able to open their eyes.

It’s a blast to work with Jeff because he has a great balance of determination and preparation. He genuinely wants to understand the principles of a movement before launching his body into foreign positions; and once he finds a move that’s got him stumped or confused he will work and work and work on drills until those hard skills have become second nature. Jeff is a great athlete but also a great guy. We are lucky to have him in the tribe!!
